In many places in the Netherlands, accessible GP care is unfortunately no longer a given. Also in Uithoorn there has been a shortage of GPs for years. Practices are having great difficulty recruiting new colleagues and had been running up against their maximum capacity for some time. Meanwhile, the stretch has been exhausted and several practices are subject to an indefinite patient freeze.
The GPs realise that this creates an undesirable situation. That is why the alarm was raised earlier with the Uithoorn municipality and with Care and Security, the largest health insurer in our region. Given the ongoing GP shortage and the construction of new houses in Uithoorn, this situation is expected to continue for the time being.
Once more capacity is created by the arrival of new GPs, a practice can reopen (temporarily) for new patients. The arrival of an additional GP practice in Uithoorn would also be very welcome.
